Jacobs shines but loses in CCC trial
Barbados Cricket Association article.
Bridgetown, Barbados - Barbadians Anthony Alleyne and Kyle Hope hit unbeaten fifties in a third-wicket century partnership as Hope's XI beat Steven Jacobs' XI by eight wickets in a rain-affected first Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) one-day trial match at 3Ws Oval on Wednesday.
And based on performances in the match and information reaching BCAcricket.org, Barbadians again look set to take the lion share of places in the CCC squad for the WICB NAGICO Super50 championship in Trinidad & Tobago from January 30 to February 16.
Opener Alleyne scored 69 not out and Hope made 64 not out in a partnership of 133 as Hope's side, chasing 174 to win in 45 overs, triumphed with 21 balls to spare.
Left-hander Alleyne faced 126 balls and struck three boundaries, while the more enterprising Hope received 82 balls and counted four fours and one six.
The pair came together after Guyanese off-spinner Jacobs, who is the new CCC captain, had removed Nicholas Alexis for 26 and Shayne Moseley without scoring in successive balls with the score 44.
Jacobs took two for 24 off nine overs.
Earlier, Jacobs slammed 81 off 82 balls with five sixes and three fours at No. 7 in his team's 173 all out in 44.2 overs after they sent in.
Jomel Warrican, a left-arm spinner, who has represented Barbados in a couple first-class matches, grabbed four for nine off 8.2 overs.
Warrican, who was born in the neighbouring island of St. Vincent, educated in Barbados and has played a solitary regional 50-over match for West Indies Under-19s in Guyana in 2009, is strongly tipped to be picked in the CCC squad as a Windward Islander.
Well-placed sources also told BCAcricket.org that Shamarh Brooks, a former Barbados and West Indies Under-19 team captain, who has also led Barbados at the first-class level, is also expected to be in the CCC squad.
Brooks played on Wednesday but survived just four balls before he was leg before wicket by Warrican for one.
A second trial match is slated for Friday, January 10.
