Brave West Indies go down fighting to Australia

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- The West Indies put in a brilliant effort against Australia on Saturday, but came out on the losing end by 50 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy Group A match at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Saturday.

West Indies won the toss and elected to field on a green pitch which offered assistance to the bowers throughout the day. The Windies bowlers did a very good job in the early stages and had the Aussies at one stage 171-7, but they recovered to make a challenging 275-8 off their 50 overs.

Richards suffers shoulder injury

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- West Indies opening batsman suffered an injury to his right shoulder during Saturday’s Group A ICC Champions Trophy match against Australia and was unable to bat. The right-hander fell awkwardly while fielding and left the field immediately for treatment.

He is expected to have a full assessment on Sunday and will continue to get treatment on a daily basis. It is hoped he will be available for selection for Wednesday’s day/night match against India at the Wanderers.

West Indies ready to face Australia in Group A clash

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- West Indies captain Floyd Reifer says his team will approach Saturday’s match against Australia with confidence when the two teams meet in their Group A ICC Champions Trophy contest at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

First ball is 9.30 am (3.30 am Eastern Caribbean Time/2.30 am Jamaica Time). The match is the first outing in this two-week tournament for the Aussies while the Windies will be playing their second match following their five-wicket defeat against Pakistan in the opening match on Wednesday.

Roach fit to face Australia on Saturday

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- The West Indies camp received good news on Friday as fast bowler Kemar Roach was declared fit to face Australia for their ICC Champions Trophy Group A match at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Saturday morning.

First ball is 9.30 am (3.30 am Eastern Caribbean Time/2.30 am Jamaica Time).

Praise for Tonge and Miller

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- West Indies fast bowler Gavin Tonge and slow bowler Nikita Miller have come in for praise following their brilliant performances against Pakistan in the opening ICC Champions Trophy match on Wednesday night at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
