Tonge on song but West Indies lose to Pakistan

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- West Indies fast bowler Gavin Tonge was brilliant with the ball on Wednesday night, taking 4-25 from 10 overs, but it was not enough as the Windies lost their opening ICC Champions Trophy match by five wickets to Pakistan.

West Indies confident as they start against Pakistan

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- The West Indies players are eagerly looking forward to their all-important opening match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2009. The Windies will start against Pakistan at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Wednesday at 2.30 pm in the day/night contest (8.30 a.m. Eastern Caribbean Time/7.30 am Jamaica Time).

Speaking after Tuesday training session Captain Floyd Reifer said the team would be brave and confident in their approach and would “not be playing names”.

Dowlin looking to give it his all!

JOHANNESBURG -- West Indies batsman Travis Dowlin is ready and set for his first outing in a major international cricket tournament. The strongly-built right-hander is hoping to make some major contributions during the ICC Champions Trophy 09, which bowls off on Tuesday. The first match will be between host nation South Africa and Sri Lanka at Centurion, while the Windies will have their first test on Wednesday against Pakistan at The Wanderers in Johannesburg.
