Hosts edge Leewards, Guyana crumble

St Elizabeth, Jamaica - The first day of the second round of matches in the Regional Under 15 tournament was completed today across three venues in Jamaica.

Here are the details:

AT MANLEY HORN - Jamaica v Leeward Islands

A clinical bowling performance from Brad Barnes helped Jamaica earn first innings points against the Leeward Islands. In the second innings, Shalome Parnell led the destruction for the hosts as Jamaica put themselves in the driving seat.

After being inserted, the Leewards lost two early wickets. However, Michael Lewis held up the first innings, stroking 30 runs from 43 balls in a knock that included five fours. He was the top scorer of the Leewards innings with Tassilo Allen hitting an unbeaten 27 at the end.

The Leewards finished on 150/9 from 42 overs. Barnes was the pick of the Jamaican bowlers with 4-39. The Jamaicans bid for first innings points started off badly, as they were quickly reduced to 16/3. That score would look even worse at 42/6. However, a defiant and gritty Rashjni Roye struck an aggressive, unbeaten 58 from 54 balls to lead Jamaica to first innings.

He was assisted by Shalome Parnell who struck 40. The Jamaicans finished their 42 overs on 155/7. Jamuel Cabey and Tassilo Allen both finished with two wickets for the Leewards. In their second innings, the visitors were rocked by Parnell, who finished the day with three wickets in three overs in the second innings. The Leewards stumbled to stumps on Day 1 on 17/4, leading by a meagre 12 runs.

AT STETHS - Guyana v Windward Islands

Guyana suffered not one, but two collapses on Day as the Windward Islands romped to first innings points and are already sighting an outright victory. Asked to bat first, the Guyanese batsmen could not cope with Alick Anthanaze and Narlin Singh, both of whom finished with three wickets.

Guyana lost wickets at regular intervals, right up to their dismissal of 79 all out in 37 overs. The highest score of the innings came from Mark Williams who was run out for 28. Only Williams and Bhaskar Yadram (10) got into double figures.

In response, the Windwards romped to 124/8 from their 38 overs to open up a lead of 45 runs on first innings. Opener, Johann Jeremiah led the way with a solid 32 while Emmanuel Stewart struck 54 in the middle order to bolster the Windwards' first innings. There were no other real contributions from the Windwards batting as Guyana tried desperately to pull the match back.

Richie Luknauth grabbed 5-39 while Ronaldo Mohammed had 3-40. But ultimately, Guyana's batting in the second innings squandered their good work. Shane Roberts, Alick Athanaze and Narlin Singh all took two wickets each to leave Guyana reeling at Stumps on Day 1 on 24/6, still trailing the Windwards' first innings by 21 runs.

AT ALPART - Barbados v Trinidad & Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago put in a commanding performance on Day 1 to take first innings points against Barbados. The Red Force also gave themselves a good chance of winning outright after leaving Barbados reeling at 53/5 at Stumps - effectively 13/5.

After opting to bowl first, all of T&T's bowlers got wickets as Barbados were restricted to 102/8 from 38 overs. Joel Sutherland, Emilo Gopaul and Kirstan Kallicharan all took two wickets each. Shiam Brathwaite was the only highlight in Barbados' innings with a patient knock of 47. The second highest score was 16 from Limar Pierce.

T&T made light work of overhauling Barbados' first innings total with good contributions down the order from Keagan Simmons (23), Kirstan Kallicharan (45) and Saiba Batoosingh (38). Joshua Bishop took 4-45 but couldn't prevent Barbados conceding a lead of 40 on first innings as T&T ended their 38 overs on 142/7.

It meant Barbados needed to knock off 40 runs before they began setting T&T a total. By the time they got to 40, half of their batting line-up was already back in the pavilion. Amrit Kistow (3-9) and Joel Sutherland (2-16) Barbados' demise. Joshua Bishop, unbeaten on 31, prevented any further damage but Barbados have it all to do to save this match, leading by 13 runs with five wickets in hand.
