Guyana surge towards final with easy win
 

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Guyana continued their march towards the final of the Regional Under-19 One-Day Championship when they trounced Windward Islands by 114 runs in the penultimate round of the competition here Tuesday.

Opting to bat first at the Albion Sports Complex, the hosts amassed an imposing 276 for five off their 50 overs, with opener Shimron Hetmyer cracking 86 and Kemo Paul weighing in with 51.

Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul struck 43 while Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed contributed 30.

Hetmyer and Chanderpaul put on 129 for the first wicket and when Guyana lost three wickets to stumble to 167 for three, Kemo Paul and Akshay Homraj put on another 60 for the fourth wicket

Paul slammed 51 from 32 balls with two fours and two sixes while Homraj got an unbeaten 30.

Ryan John (2-56) and Sherman Lewis (2-72) finished with two wickets apiece.

In reply, the Windwards were never in the hunt and collapsed to 162 all out off 41.3 overs, after being undermined by off-spinners Balchan Baldeo who grabbed three for 35 and Sharaz Ramcharran, who took two for 26.

Kershaskie Jno Lewis top-scored with 42 and anchored two half-century stands in an attempt to keep the Windwards in the game. When the visitors slipped to 14 for two, he added 52 for the third wicket with Melvin Gordan (20) and then posted a further 66 for the fifth wicket with captain Roland Cato who carved out 38.

At Everest, Trinidad and Tobago easily brushed aside archrivals Barbados by 58 runs, thanks to a strong bowling performance.

They managed 204 for seven off their 50 overs after opting to bat first, with opener Jeremy Solozano hitting 56 and Camillo Carimbocas getting 44. Solozano and Amir Jangoo, who scored 26, gave T&T a solid start of 66 for the first wicket before Justin Joseph (38) added a further 58 for the second wicket with Solozano.

Left-arm spinner Matthew Jones claimed three for 43.

Barbados then crumbled to 146 all out off 43.4 overs, under the pace of fast bowler Akil Seetal who grabbed three for 36 while off-spinners Tevin Jadoo (2-15) and Samuel Roopnarine (2-22) claimed two wickets apiece.

Opener Nicholas Kirton (45) and Akil Greenidge (43) then shone in a 86-run, second wicket stand but once they were dismissed, Barbados lost their last nine wickets for 56 runs.

At the National Stadium, Leewards Islands whipped ICC Americas by 150 runs.

Shaquille Martina (60), Kasey Carty (59 not out) and Dion West (51) all hit half-centuries to guide the Leewards to 259 for four off their 50 overs, before fast bowler Alzarri Joseph claimed five for 47 to reduce the ICC Americas to 109 all out off 25.2 overs.
