Guyana set T&T 201 to win

PROVIDENCE, Guyana, CMC – Rayad Emrit topped a half-century from Leon Johnson to leave Trinidad & Tobago to chase 201 for victory against Guyana in the first semi-final of the Regional Super50 tournament on Wednesday.

Emrit snared four wickets for 39 from nine overs, defying an innings 66 from Johnson, as Guyana, choosing to bat, reached 200 for nine from their allocation of 50 overs in the rain-affected match at the Guyana National Stadium.

Emrit set Guyana back early with the scalp of opener Trevon Griffith caught at backward point for 12, and returned to collect the scalps of Christopher Barnwell, Royston Crandon, and Derwin Christian “at the death” when the hosts looked set to launch a late charge.

Johnson struck five fours and two sixes from 107 balls and added 81 for the fourth wicket with Steven Jacobs in the most significant partnership of the innings before top-edged a sweep, giving Sherwin Ganga a return catch in the 28th over.

Ganga finished with two for 48 from 11 overs, and Sunil Narine ended with two for 26 from 12 overs.
