Guyana claim Regional Under-15 title

Kingston, Jamaica - Guyana secured the 2014 Regional Under-15 title with an 11-run victory over Jamaica today at Melbourne. There were also wins for the Windwards and Barbados in the final round of matches.

AT MELBOURNE: Guyana saw off Jamaica fairly easily in the end, although there seemed to be a contest in the closing stages. Batting first, Guyana scored 248/7 with Stepe Deonarine top scoring for the hosts with an unbeaten 60. His knock came from just 79 balls.

Kris Ramnarine was also in fine form for the Guyanese, stroking 54 from 79 balls as well, hitting six boundaries in the process. Wickets were spread almost evenly for the Jamaican bowlers but Raewin Senior emerged the pick with figures of 2-36.

The skipper also led the response, striking 113 from 121 balls. His knock included 11 boundaries and two sixes. However, he didn't get the support he needed from his partners and Jamaica slowly tottered towards defeat.

The next best score was 27 from Dominik Williams. Bhaskar Yadram had 3-46 while Stephen Kamaladeen and Kevin Sinclair shared four wickets evenly.

AT POLICE: The Windward Islands dismissed the Leeward Islands cheaply to set up a convincing seven-wicket victory in the final round. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Leeward Islands struggled to put runs on the board and accelerate their innings.

In turn, they were bowled out on the 50-over mark for 189. Urnel Thomas (3-36) and Micah Joseph (3-21) led the destruction for the Windwards.

An unbeaten half-century from Obadele Joseph then helped the Windwards raced towards their victory target. Joseph struck 54 runs from 101 balls, hitting three boundaries along the way.

Opener Kimani Melius gave the Windwards a good start with the bat, getting to 44. Though Jerrlious Lewis took two wickets, he was mightily expensive going for 2-65 one ball short of his full quota.

AT UP PARK CAMP: Kirstan Kallicharan's efforts were invain as Trinidad & Tobago succumbed to a 34-run defeat at the hands of Barbados in the final round of matches in the Regional Under-15 Tournament.

After electing to bat first, Barbados captain Joshua Bishop led from the front with 56 to help his team get to 234/8 from their 50 overs. Shian Brathwaite also chipped in with 40. Kallicharan bowled well for T&T, taking 3-42.

In response, T&T were bowled out for just 200 inside their allotted 50 overs. Kallicharan was once again the star for T&T, scoring 43. Navin Bedaisee resisted with 41 while Leonardo Julien made 31 but those knocks weren't enough for T&T. Joshua Bishop finished with three wickets while Joshua Corbin had two as Barbados won by 34 runs.
