GSCL pushes back second 12/12 tourney

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA - Due to the unavailability of the Everest Cricket Club ground this weekend, following the commencement of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Inter-County Under-17 tournament, the Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) was forced to push back its second 12/12 tournament.

Originally, the tournament was set to bowl off tomorrow at the Everest ground, with the second, third and fourth playing days being Sunday, next Saturday and Sunday respectively. The new playing dates are now July 6, 7, 13 and 14 at the same venue.

This tournament, which has a first-place prize of $600 000, will see the first 12 teams to compete in the tournament, pay an entrance fee of $50 000 and teams will be entered on a first come, first serve basis.

Subsequently, participating teams will be placed into two groups of six to play each other once, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the semifinals and final, which will be contested on the final day of the tournament.

The GSCL nationwide Open 12/12, Female and Over-35 competitions are expected to bowl off soon at various venues and teams are required to pay an entrance fee of $7 000 (Male Open) and $5 000 (Male Over-35) with female teams being offered free participation.

The winners in the Ladies’ category will take home a trophy and $100 000 while the runners-up will receive $50 000 and a trophy and the first-place team in the Over-35 will uplift $100 000 and a trophy with the second-placers grabbing $50 000 and a trophy. 

In the Male Open category, the champions will collect $200 000 and a trophy, while the runners-up will receive $100 000 a trophy. Interested teams are asked to contact Samuel Kingston on 614-9536 or Rafman Khan on 654-2233 as early as possible for registration.
