Fudadin ton guides Guyana

Basseterre, St Kitts, CMC – Assad Fudadin stroked his maiden first class century to put Guyana in charge against Combined Campuses and Colleges on the second day of their third round Regional 4Day match on Friday.

The 26-year-old left-hander carved out a wonderful, unbeaten 102 as Guyana marched to 320 all out in response to CCC’s 194, after resuming the day at Warner Park on 72 for two. At the close, CCC had stumbled to 16 for one, still 110 runs behind.

The day, however, belonged to Fudadin who counted 13 fours and two sixes in an innings requiring 184 balls and lasting 275 minutes. His knock was a crucial especially after Guyana lost three wickets for 31 runs in the space of 46 balls to stumble to 156 for five at lunch.

Guyana got a good start to the day, however, as Narsingh Deonarine and Leon Johnson extended their 45-run, third wicket stand to 98 before being separated.

Johnson carried his overnight 26 to 49 before he was caught at the wicket cutting at one too close to him from pacer Kevin McClean (4-55) and Deonarine, starting the day on 19, made a busy 58 from 36 balls before falling lbw to McClean.

When Chris Barnwell fended a short ball from McClean behind to depart for a first-ball “duck”, Guyana were in trouble. However, Fudadin anchored a 99-run stand with Royston Crandon, who scored 57, to haul Guyana back into the contest.

Crandon slammed six fours and two sixes off 102 balls to offer great support before he was caught behind by Chadwick Walton off medium pacer Raymon Reifer, looking to force a delivery through the offside at 255 for six.

Wickets then stumbled steadily but Fudadin held the innings together and saw Guyana past the 300-run mark.

Guyana then put an exclamation mark on their performance as pacer Barnwell got captain Romel Currency to edge one that lifted, through to wicketkeeper Derwin Christian at 12 for one.
