Elegance Jewellery and Pawn Shop Softball tourney…Reid, Arjune guide Phone Paradise to Over-35 title

Georgetown, Guyana - Rawl Reid and Mahendra Arjune slammed half centuries as Phone Paradise overcame Frontline by 34 runs in the final of the Elegance Jewellery and Pawn Shop over-35 softball tournament played on Friday night last Thirst Park.

Reid and Arjune added 120 for the third wicket after Phone Paradise lost two early scalps batting first in front of a fair size crowd. Reid stroked fours and a similar number of sixes, while Arjune cracked two fours and three sixes as they dominated the opposition bowling. Patrick Khan chipped in with 25 as Phone Paradise rattled up 193-4 off their allotted 15 overs.

Frontline were restricted for 159-7 in 15 overs in reply. Kapil Dev Singh top scored with 67 while Mohamed Rafeek made 32. The pair kept their team in the hunt after they were reduced to 45-4, with a fifth wicket stand of 67.

After they were dismissed in quick succession, the rest of the batting tried desperately to stay on par with the asking rate, but were halted by consistent bowling and tidy fielding by their opponents. Sheldon Perch grabbed 4-17 for the winners.

Phone Paradise received a trophy and $40,000 while Frontline collected a trophy and $20,000.
