PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD - East won their third consecutive BG T&T Under-15 InterZone crown yesterday after defeating Central by ten wickets before lunch on the second day of the tournament final, at the National Cricket Centre, in Balmain, Couva.
Central were blown away in their second innings for just 58 as East off-spinner Daniel Khan completed his five-wicket haul, getting the wicket of overnight batsman Kyle Madoo with his first delivery on the final day.
Khan, bowling the second over of the morning following a successful over from Aaron Mairam, had Madoo, who started the day on 19, caught by Kareem Muradali after adding just one to his tally. Mairam bowled Joel Sutherland in the first over of the day for one before getting the wicket of Shadell Soogrim, stumped by wicketkeeper Leonardo Julien for five.
East already had a 17-run first innings lead after making 126 for five in reply to Central’s first innings score of 109 for six. Having dismissed Central cheaply in their second turn at the crease, East needed just 42 to win.
Keagan Simmons, who top-scored with 71 in the first innings, made an unbeaten 24 off 50 balls to earn the Man of the Match award, while Jonathan Hosein added 16 not out off 59 balls to seal the victory.
Khan was impressive with the ball, finishing with seven wickets in the match.
Right-arm medium pacer Sachin Seecharan also had a good spell in the second innings, bowling five overs and taking one wicket without conceding a run.
