Carmichael, Surujnarine win for TT clubs

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA - Two Guyanese cricketers who are amongst the several plying their trade in Trinidad and Tobago, last Saturday, piloted their respective clubs to victory in the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) T20 Premier League.

Playing in the fourth round for Aranguez Sports Club, Kellon Carmichael churned out a solid all round performance which enabled his side to defeat Moosai Sports Club, which include the likes of Georgetown Cricket Club’s Robin Bacchus.

Former National Under-19 opener Kandasammy Surujnarine then struck a last ball six that did enough for F&E Diamond to win a nail biting five wickets victory over Esmeralda, for whom Gajanand Singh represents.

At Moosai, the home team won the toss and electing to bat first, amassed 179-6 in 20 overs with Bacchus 53, Nicholas Alexis 57 and Navin Stewart 31 leading their batting.

Carmichael 2-35 and Jamal Phillips 2-40 led ASC’s bowling before Carmichael joined forces with Jonathan Cabralis and added 90 for the first wicket from 10 overs, with Cabralis contributing 47, while Carmichael went onto score an even 50 (32balls, 7x4, 1x6) which together with Michael Brown’s 34, piloted ASC to 180 for 4 from 19.3 overs.

In the Esmeralda versus Diamond encounter, Esmeralda batted first and got to 118 for 9 off their 20 overs, with Akeel Mollon hitting an unbeaten 27, while Gajanand Singh also chipped in with 27 against the bowling of Anand Ajodha who took 4 for 16 for F&E Diamond.

In their turn at the crease, F&E Diamond struggled to 115 for 5 with one delivery remaining, from which they needed 4 runs for victory, which they got, thanks to Surujnarine’s heroics which left him unbeaten on 34, after Vishal Singh had earlier made 47.
