Brilliant Cooper bowls Royals to win

JAIPUR, India – Trinidadian Kevin Cooper’s stocks in the Indian Premier League continued to rise after he bowled Rajasthan Royals to a surprise 19-run victory over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders here Monday.

The 24-year-old, who has never played for West Indies, snatched three for 15 from four brilliant overs as the Royals amazingly defended their total 144 for six at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Sent in, the Royals were led by Australian Brad Hodge who top scored with an unbeaten 46 while West Indies off-spinner Sunil Narine claimed two for 28 from his four overs.

In reply, Kolkata’s innings never got off the ground as Cooper allied with Indian seamer Siddharth Trivedi (3-23) to destroy the innings.

England’s Eion Morgan hammered 51 from 38 balls with three fours and three sixes but Cooper got him in the 19th over, bowled off an inside edge attempting a scoop.

Only two days ago, Cooper produced a brilliant last over that contained two wickets and yielded just three runs, as the Royals nipped Delhi Daredevils in a close finish.
