Benn, Nurse leave Guyana in a spin

Georgetown, Guyana - Sulieman Benn forced a collapse on Day 2 that could see Barbados coming from behind to beat Guyana at Providence Stadium.

At the start of Day 2, things looked bleak for the Bajan visitors, who a day earlier were skittled out for 184. The Guyanese went to Stumps on Day 1 at 35/0.

The opening stand between Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Sewnarine Chattergoon continued to prosper on the morning of Day 2. Chattergoon scored 50 while Chanderpaul hit 41 as the opening stand was worth 92 runs.

However, when the opening partnership was broken, it was almost as though that was the one obstacle standing in the way of a Barbadian first innings points win. The rest of the Guyanese batting order slid into disarray.

From 92/1, it became 92/4, then 111/6, then 138/9, until Guyana were bowled out 140 runs. Benn had nabbed 5-28 while fellow spinner, Ashley Nurse finished with 3-51.

In a game Barbados had mostly spent Day 1 chasing, they now found themselves with a handy lead of 44 runs. In their second innings, they ensured they didn't repeat the mistakes of the first.

Though the visitors lost captain Kraigg Brathwaite cheaply, Boucher batted well, hitting 36 from 65 balls. His knock included seven boundaries. Roston Chase also got a start, scoring 30 runs before departing.

At Stumps on Day 2, Barbados were 116/4, leading by 160 runs overall. Kevin Stoute is not out on 15 while Shane Dowrich is with him on 9. The 3rd Day starts at 3pm Eastern Caribbean Time.
