Kingston, Jamaica - Veteran cricket administrator and sports journalist Lascelles 'Tony' Becca was honoured for his contribution to the sport during the annual Melbourne/ Cricket Clubs Activities Committee Twenty20 Festival at Melbourne Oval on Sunday.
"We think Tony Becca has done so much for cricket in Jamaica and the West Indies, so its natural for us to honour him. He has always been there for us," Dennis Atkinson, president of the famed Melbourne Cricket Club said during the presentation.
"When I was elected Melbourne Cricket Club president two years ago, I chose Becca to be my advisor," Atkinson disclosed.
Becca, who has received many awards over the years, was full of gratitude for the recognition, which he considers particularly special because of his close association with the club.
"I feel good, as all I have done is nothing compared to my feelings for Melbourne and West Indies cricket," Becca said.
With regards to his role as advisor, the former Melbourne Cricket Club president and sports editor at The Gleaner said, "We have never had somebody in that capacity before, so I am honoured to continue working with Melbourne."
Becca, who was instrumental in starting the Melbourne Cricket Festival, received a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone courtesy of telecommunications company, Digicel.
