Barrackpore Angels beat PSC in thriller

Port of Spain, Trinidad - Powerful knocks from Ramesh Brijlal (51 not out) and Marlon Breceno (35) propelled third placed Barrackpore Angels to a nail-biting three-wicket win over Potential Sports Club as the inaugural Diamond Premier Twenty20 League (DPL) continued at the community’s Kennedy Park Grounds, over the weekend.

Batting first, the Moruga-based Potential SC amassed 172 runs for the loss of seven in their allotted 20 overs. They were led by an impressive knock of 61 from Tyrone Jacobs. In their turn at the crease however, Barrackpore Angels had a devastating start, staring defeat early on at just 28 runs for four wickets.

But, the meaningful introductions of Brijlal and Breceno significantly assisted the Barrackpore fight-back, carrying them to a victorious 173 runs for seven, with one ball to spare (19.5overs). 

Both teams are in Group “A”, with the Barrackpore group in third place (16pts) and Potential in fourth (16pts/ one game in hand). Presently, Team TTEC is atop the standings on 17pts while Quinam Road Presidents XI are second (17pts). 

In other matches, Group ‘B’ leaders SJ Rapids fell victim to a determined third placed Debe Youth Foundation team. Taking advantage of SJ Rapids’ key missing players Evin Lewis and Nicholas Sookdeosingh, the Debe squad posted a strong total of 147 for five after their 20 0vers.

Roger Thomas top scoring with 51 and supported by V Jagessar’s kkock of 28. Veteran player, D Sultan was the pick of the bowlers claiming three for 14. 

In reply, SJ Rapids struggled and were restricted to 130 runs for the loss of eight after their 20-over duration.
