Barnwell to lead Guyana in Super50

Georgetown, Guyana - West Indies T20 all-rounder Christopher Barnwell has been appointed skipper of the Guyana team for the West Indies Cricket Board’s NAGICO Super50 competition, starting month-end.
The 27-year-old Barnwell, who has appeared in 17 List A matches for Guyana, will lead the 14-man squad that includes West Indies batting trio Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who has been appointed vice-captain, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Narsingh Deonarine.
Former national Under-19 opener Robin Bacchus is the lone newcomer in the team, with fellow left-hander Trevon Griffith being the other opener in the squad.
Barnwell and Royston Crandon are the two primary all-rounders, while left-handers Leon Johnson and Assad Fudadin complete the batting department.
The bowling hinges around leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul and fast bowlers Ronsford Beaton and Paul Wintz, while Anthony Bramble is the wicketkeeper.
According to a release from the Guyana Cricket Board on Thursday afternoon, the entire training squad of 26, including fast bowler Andre Stoll and all-rounder Jonathon Foo will remain encamped until January 25.
The NAGICO Super50 will run from January 30 to February 17, with all matches being hosted in Trinidad and Tobago.
