Barbados go clear at the top of U 15
BASSETERRE, St.Kitts - Barbados, Leeward Islands and Trinidad and Tobago registered outright wins on the second day of their two day third round matches in the WICB Under-15 Championship Wednesday.
Barbados defeated Windward Islands by 72 runs, Leeward Islands beat Guyana by four wickets and Trinidad and Tobago trounced title-holders Jamaica by nine wickets to ensure the champions remained winless.
The Barbadians handed Windward Islands their first defeat after both teams posted first and second round wins.
However, it was an unbeaten century from Leniko Boucher which stole the spotlight at the Conaree Sports Complex and propelled Barbados into the lead of the tournament with three wins.
Leniko batted responsibly to reach 106 lifting the bajans to 281 for five in their second innings and sharing in a century stand for the fifth wicket with Shamari Springer.
Boucher faced 130 balls and struck 12 boundaries in an innings that lasted 137 minutes.
Springer contributed 60 and Deswin Currency 43.
Despite fighting innings of 49 from Darel Cyrus and 48 from Christian Challery Windward Islands were bowled out for 192 in their second innings.
Deswin Currency with three for 28 was the pick of the bowling while Springer, who grabbed two wickets to add to his three in the first innings, was named man of the match.
Meantime, defending champions Jamaica crashed to another defeat this time at the hands of Trinidad and Tobago at Edgar Gilbert Complex.
Jamaica, 63 for four overnight in their second innings, were skittled out for 115 with Demali Taylor scoring 32, Orande Pearson 23 and Orlando Rowe 23 not out.
Man of the Match Bryan Boodram was the leading wicket taker with five for 25 while Dejourn Charles picked up 3 for 22 and Keron Persaud 2 for 13.
Set 76 for victory, Trinidad and Tobago reached 81 for 1 with Negus Smith and Dejourn Charles not out on 48 and 22 respectively.
Over at Warner Park, Mrinal Wadhwa single handedly destroyed the Guyana second innings to setup victory for the Leeward Islands.
Wadhwa, voted man of the match, contained the Guyana batting by snatching an impressive 7 wickets for 26 runs, leaving the Leewards to chase 123 to win.
The leewards lost five wickets before reaching their target and with Ras Powell undefeated on 58.
The best Guyanese bowler was Ewert Samuels with 3 for 19.
