Fidel wants to be world No. 1

Roseau, Dominica– West Indies pacer Fidel Edwards has declared himself “fit and strong” and also indicated he wants to continue the good work he has done against India. The 29-year-old said his ultimate goal is to be become the Number 1 bowler on the International Cricket Council’s Test match ranking.

Since his return to the game after a long break, Edwards has been the Windies most successful bowler – with 13 wickets at 19.84 each in the first two matches of the ongoing Digicel Test Series against India.

Bridgetown, Barbados – In what appears to be a story of ‘like father like son’ Fidel Edwards could pass the fast bowling baton to his son in years to come. Cricket fans at Kensington Oval were thrilled with what they saw from the local children who participated in the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket display. One child who stood out, despite his small physique, was a pint-sized five-year-old. He caught the eye as he sprinted to the crease off his “long run” to bowl “fast”.

Grassroots cricket brings enormous benefits

Bridgetown, Barbados– The Digicel Grassroots Cricket Programme has taken root in Barbados and several participants are reaping the enormous benefits. The members of the Isolation Cavaliers Club and the Alfallah Academy have been part of the outreach programme and have seen the sport grow in just a short period of time.

Kevin Vaughan, President of Isolation Cavaliers, and Mohmad Pandor, Head of Alfallah, have both said big “thank yous” to Digicel and the West Indies Cricket Board for the visionary development programme.

Barbadian student wins Kiddy Cricket Mascot Competition

Bridgetown, Barbados -Twelve year old Harrison College student, Barbadian Daniel Lashley has been declared the winner of the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket ‘Design a Mascot Competition’.

Daniel’s entry “Chirpy the Cricket” copped the top position when weighed against 12 other national winners from across the Caribbean. Daniel won for himself a brand new laptop computer for his top placing in addition to the Nintendo DS he won for being the top entrant from his country.

Webster joins Windies for 2nd Digicel Test

Bridgetown, Barbados – Dr. Rudi Webster has accepted an invitation to work with the West Indies players as they prepare for the Second Digicel Test match against India at Kensington Oval.

Dr. Webster, a renowned Sports Psychologist, will be with the team for the duration of the match. He accompanied the team during their training session on Sunday at Kensington Oval.
