Antigua beat Montserrat in impromptu limited overs match

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – In what was scheduled a three-day contest, but turned into a 50 over match, Antigua & Barbuda handsomely defeated Montserrat by nine wickets in the Leeward Islands Under-19 Cricket Competition at the Police Recreation Grounds (PRG) on Sunday.

The contest, which began on Friday, allegedly saw no play on Saturday after the pitch at Police Grounds was soaked by overnight rainfall when left uncovered Friday night.

Both teams, according to reports, agreed to play the limited overs contest of on Sunday, which resulted in a huge victory for the Antiguans.

Batting first, Montserrat was bowled out for 88 in 27.4 overs. D West topped scored for the visitors with 18 runs while D Wade added 15 runs.

The Antiguans had good bowling spells for Karima Gore (2/16), Orandel Boston (2/16) and Javier Spencer (2/23).

When their turn at the crease arrived, the home team easily reached their target at 89 for one. They were led by Tyrone Williams who struck nine boundaries in 50 not out while Kofie James also batted not out for 25 runs.

Antigua & Barbuda are due to take on St Martin in their next match at the Police Recreation Grounds on Thursday.
