Aguilleira - This is amazing feeling

KINGSTON, Jamaica – West Indies Women’s captain Merissa Aguilleira said her team learned a lot that will serve them well going forward during their 2-1 series win over New Zealand Women.

West Indies lost the opening match of the three-game series by one run on Sunday, but won the second on Tuesday by 89 runs before a comprehensive victory by 95 runs to clinch the series in style.

The captain said winning the series was wonderful as they maintained their four-year unbeaten record on Caribbean soil.

“To win the series is an amazing feeling as it is the first time that we are doing so against New Zealand, who are one of the top teams in women's cricket,” ssaid the longstanding wicket-keeper and captain.

“It was not easy, as after the first game defeat, we had to look into ourselves deeply and see what we were doing wrong. But the girls responded brilliantly in the second game, and today again remained on the ball, which allowed us to pull through.”

Aguilleira contributed in a major way to the team’s result. She was the third highest run-scorer and also had five catches and a stumping behind the stumps. She said the team is looking forward to the upcoming T20 Tri Series in Barbados, which will also feature New Zealand and England.

“We took care of business here in Jamaica and now it’s onto Barbados. We expect the conditions there will be similar to what we experienced here at Sabina Park so we believe we do very well at Kensington Oval.”
